La fragmentation au niveau régional représenterait un recul par rapport à cette construction. « I strongly support this intiative. I have been twice involved in the reviewing process of the IAP and I believe that it would be a great mistake to abandon this initiative. The major reason for keeping this initiative is the integrity of Belgian Science. At the moment most of the the Belgian Science funding is focused on regional interests (Flemish, Wallonish). This may be OK: But there MUST be a funding which is National. This country has to put together numerous joint initiatives. It was wonderful to see how in my IAP the switch from a Flemish coordinator to a Wallonish coordinator was appreciated, strongly demonstrating the willingness to accept one another. Wonnderful!!! Why jeopardize these acceptances? Gloablization will put a very severe impact on European Society in the future. The only way to cope with these new forces is to strengthen the countries within Europe more and more. Any weakness in an individual country will weaken Europe. I have had a Belgian student in one of my courses just recently. In the end she turned out to be the BEST. I asked her who her teachers were and quite interestingly they all were part of the IAP. I want to specifically emphasize on the large interest I saw in the interdisciplinary programs of PAI. Withdrawing PAI would be a very prejudiciable measure for both the Flamish and wallish research teams. In the competitive European future, Belgian research would loose a major piece of its assets if it was splitting its upmost qualified although few capacities: indeed a good research comes from the compliance of a rich condensed know how – a dynamic youth and, money. The three items must mandatorily be combined and, Federal Belgian PAI are promoting at least two of them.
